What makes LexiCon different than other writers conferences? The focus is on the writer.
What is LexiCon? Well, to be honest, the definition isn't complete yet because it is still metamorphizing into what it will ultimately become. However, the basics are simple - LexiCon is a positive experience where writers of all levels and degrees of talent, success and genre are encouraged and supported. It's a place where egos are left at the door to build networks of friendships and associates, creating and improving on a sales dynamic. It's a source for the latest information in the rapidly changing publishing field. It's a fun, entertaining, and informative weekend that instills enthusiasm and excitement in the attendees who go on to pursue their goals and increase their productivity and sales.
So many writers make the mistake of thinking they don't need to attend a writers conference because they've published several books and they know everything they need to know. Well, writing is a creative process but it is also a business. A business that is changing rapidly. The days of when a large traditional publisher would purchase a manuscript, do the editing, and pay for all of the marketing and promotion are over. Unless you are within that top ten percent of writers - the James Pattersons, the Stephanie Myers, the Stephen Kings - then you are going to be required to do a lot of your own marketing and promotions.
LexiCon endeavors to show the latest changes in the the publishing industry as well as help writers of all levels and genres create business networks to maximize sales. This is not your grandfather's tired, boring, mundane writers conference. LexiCon is exciting, entertaining, informative, and just plain fun. LexiCon 2013 was a huge success.
We had attendees come from Florida, North Carolina, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and from all over Texas. And we are growing.
